Celebrating 35 Years of Precision Countertops!

Celebrating 35 years of custom countertops!

In 1987 Precision opened its doors to the public, offering just one style of kitchen countertop. Customers looking to fulfill their lifetime dream of creating the perfect, customized kitchen could choose from a broad selection of colors and profiles from Precision’s Laminate brand countertop.

Thirty five years later Precision is the leader in offering high quality custom countertops in nearly every surface on the market. We’ve built our business by listening to our customer’s ideas, concerns, and innovations. No design is too extravagant, too elaborate, or too creative for our staff to handle and our awesome team members are why we’ve been around so long!

We asked our team members to share in celebration of Precision’s 35th year in business with some memories and interview questions, take a trip with us down memory lane.

Sean Loth, Accounting Manager

When did you start at Precision and what was your job title at the time?

“I started in April of 1988 and I was hired for the inside sales/order desk.”

What is a memory that stands out to you during your time with Precision Countertops?

“Probably the move from NW Portland warehouse where we shared a space with the Cronin Company out to the Tualatin shop and where we had our own space. We moved the shop from Friday afternoon and were up and running on Monday morning. No one slept that weekend.”

After all these years, what is your favorite material or favorite kitchen trend?

“Well, I have to go with slab granite. It was such a huge move away from solid surface and laminate.”

Robert Hausserman, Vice President

“I started 31 years ago today. I was going to college and was just working in the shop. We had tremendous growth over the years, from one location with 40 employees to 8 locations and 300 employees.”

After all these years, what is your favorite material or favorite kitchen trend?

“Without a doubt the introduction of Quartz was the biggest development in products and I think even today it is still the best performing product available!”

Steve Reynolds, Production Manager

When did you start at Precision and what was your job title at the time?

“1989, I was a janitor! One of my favorite memories is Robert Hausserman with glasses standing next to Marcus Neff with a Magnum PI mustache!”

After all these years, what is your favorite material or favorite kitchen trend?

The trend we are currently seeing now! Everything is white quartz with grey veining.

Dennis Mayfield, Commercial Sales

When did you start at Precision and what was your job title at the time?

“I started back in 1975 before the name was changed to Precision Countertops. It started with Uni-Cove Countertops then in 1979 The Cronin Company bought Uni-Cove which in time became Precision after Mike Tursi and Marcus made an agreement with Pat Cronin.  I left to go overseas in 1983 to work in construction then returned in July of 1993 to continue working with Precision.  When I returned to Precision, I worked in the laminate custom department for awhile then in solid surface then lead sawman in the laminate division.  Moved to inside sales then around 2005 I moved to Commercial Sales.”

What is a memory that stands out to you during your time with Precision Countertops?

“I think it must be all the misfits that we had working in the shop back in the early 90’s. We didn’t agree on a lot of things but when it came to crunch time, we could sure produce a lot of square footage in one day.”

After all these years, what is your favorite material or favorite kitchen trend?

“My favorite material has to be laminate since that is where my roots started, next in line has to be solid surface because of the many things you can do with the product.”
